I have enjoyed doing audio and video restoration projects with the Crooms. My first encounter with their work was 2015 and my latest project with them was July 2022. They bring back to life what could have easily been unusable media like old audio cassette tapes and VHS tapes.....even 78 RPM records ! My mother was recorded on a 78 in the 1950s playing classical piano for her schooling at a music conservatory. We don't have a record player which can play 78 RPM records. The Crooms converted the 78 RPM record to CD for us so we could hear my mother playing piano in the 1950s. I'm thinking about bringing photographic slides to them. I'm sure that would be an interesting and memory-preserving avenue. Who gets out a slide projector any more ? When copies of the "finished product" are needed for giving as gifts to family and friends, they come out looking like something professionally-done like would come from a record company, much better than one could do at home if duplicating on a computer. This is a unique business and now with the home pickup and finished product delivery option for orders $50 and over, it's really a clever, fun, and convenient service to the Northern New Jersey community. Hats off to them !
I am pleased to say that a sample of very old reel-to-reel tapes from the collection of radio commentator Bernice Bass, some dating back as early as 1964, was successfully digitized by your organization, and thus saved for the Newark Community Museum, a museum in planning in accordance with the vision of Mayor Ras Baraka of Newark. Your pick-up and delivery service was wonderful, and the technical transfer of the interviews done successfully at a reasonable price. I will certainly recommend to the mayor that your services be used again to preserve additional artifacts of this type.
